It's time to move forward......it doesn't matter how we do it; let's just do it!
Who knows, it could even be fun.

I love the photo above. I came across it in the Storyline collection of the State Library of Western Australia (archive number 1651). It makes me smile whenever I spend time looking at it, and I hope it makes you smile too.

Now, we just need you to keep that good, positive feeling inside you cause we're going to get serious......

It's easy to make the change in your own world, but change is also needed at a community level. This means we need to work together to create the change we want for our town. We've come up with a wish list of things we believe the community of Ballarat needs so we can move towards 'No Waste'.
Let us know if you have additional suggestions. We'll be sure to include them.

The Wish List

  1. Plastic bag free (like at Torquay) ...It's happening in Ballarat, go to What's Rolling
  2. Reverse Garbage (similar to the NSW and Qld)
  3. Repair Café (starter kit)
  4. Toy Hospital (similar to Japan's model); teaches children to respect toys and other possessions
  5. More public drinking fountains, and a ban on selling and giving away of single use plastic water bottles (as in Bundanoon and San Fransico)
  6. More drop points for recyclables (including soft plastics, polystyrene, TerraCycle items)
  7. More primary producers to provided their goods to shops in Bulk (this is easiest for local producers)
  8. More shops to sell Bulk produce (goods from local producers)
  9. Do we need a Transition group to guide Ballarat into a sustainable future? Creswick has one...
  10. More customers to buy Bulk ; goods grown, made, created by local producers. Who knows, it could be your family member, friend or neighbour whose job you're supporting. There are many more benefits too. The price you pay for local is all relative.....put your money where your heart is:-). In this interview Douglas Rushkoff shares an example which will help you understand why its important to support the little guys in town. Find the example at the 15.40 minute mark in interview.

How to get things rolling

If you'd liked to be involved with one of the projects from the Wish List, send us an email and we'll pass your contact details onto others interested in the same project........and then it's up to you. It may take a bit of time to build up enough members to form a group, but once it's rolling, it's going to be rolling. If you don't have time but have resources, contacts, or you think you can contribute in any way possible, let us know and we'll pass your details on.
Let's make this change for the better.
Time won't wait.
Let's get things rolling!
